      Marble compared with granite

Marble is a metamorphic stone made mostly of calcite. It is generally softer than granite and reacts with acids — lemon juice, vinegar and some cleaners can leave dull etch marks on a polished surface. Many people accept that patina; others prefer granite or porcelain for busy kitchens. Our granite vs marble guide compares them side by side.

      Where marble is commonly used

Marble is widely used for floors, wall panels, bathroom vanities and feature surfaces. Whether it suits your exact application depends on the use, the finish and how it will be maintained — discuss it with your installer.
